College of Foreign Languages of Guizhou University
The predecessor of the College (School) of Foreign Languages ??of Guizhou University was established in 1942 as the Department of English Language and Literature of the National University of Guizhou, or the Department of English (also known as the Department of Foreign Languages). It has a history of more than 70 years. The college has six major teaching units: English Language and Literature, Japanese, Business English, Translation, Eurasian Language Teaching and Research, and University Foreign Language Teaching.
Undergraduate Education: The College is the foreign language school with the largest number of foreign language undergraduate programs in Guizhou universities. It has four undergraduate majors in English Language and Literature, Japanese Language and Literature, Translation and Business English. Among them, English Language and Literature majors have language and literature, tourism and translation. There are four majors in business, Japanese language and literature, and two undergraduate majors, including Japanese language and literature, and travel Japanese. The college also offers two courses in English, Japanese, Russian, French, German, Korean, and Spanish for students to study.
Postgraduate Education: The College is the foreign language school with the most master’s degree in Guizhou universities. It has one level of foreign language and literature. It has three master’s degrees in English language and literature, linguistics and applied linguistics, and Japanese language and literature. The college also has two professional degree programs: the Master of Translation (MTI) and the Master of Chinese International Education (MTCSOL). The professional and rich master’s degree program fully reflects the academic accumulation and inheritance of the foreign language discipline of Guizhou University’s School of Foreign Languages. In recent years, the academic team has been younger, more professional and solid and stable after crossing the new and old tutors. Teaching and scientific research strengths are featured. At present, there are 16 professors and 22 associate professors, including 12 doctors. Among the tutors, 3 were selected for national projects, 4 for the Ministry of Education, 30 for provincial projects, and 30 for the (school) level. Researches in linguistics and applied linguistics, English and American literature, translation studies, second language acquisition, rhetoric, and Chinese as a foreign language have made important progress and formed their own academic characteristics.
Foreign Languages Education: The college undertakes public foreign language teaching for more than 20,000 undergraduate, master, and doctoral students in 39 colleges. The language is now available in English, German, French, Russian, and Japanese for non-English majors. The students choose to study.
Scientific Research: The Institute has established research institutes such as the Institute of Foreign Linguistics and Applied Linguistics, the American Cultural Center, the Japan Research Institute, the Japanese Language Research Center, and the Chinese and Western Language Philosophy Research Base, which have laid a solid foundation for the scientific research of the College. Expanded the research field for the school’s humanities and social sciences.
Faculty: The school has 189 faculty members, including 170 full-time teachers, including 9 professors, 68 associate professors, 89 lecturers, 18 doctors, 14 doctors, and from the United Kingdom, the United States, Australia, and Japan. Foreign teachers from Korea and other countries teach in our school. At present, there are more than 1200 undergraduate students and more than 300 graduate students.
Overseas Practice: The College focuses on cultivating composite and applied professionals with international perspectives. It has successively held at Presbyterian College, Japan University School of Language and Education, Japan Jingjin Education Group, Tokyo OLJ Language Institute, Japan. The Japan-China Culture and Art Institute and the Singapore New Chinese Company have established overseas internship bases for students. At the same time, they actively participate in the summer summer paid internship program, the Summer Work and Travel program, and send students to the United States and Japan to participate in training internships every year. Overseas practice not only improves students’ language ability, but also cultivates students’ intercultural communication ability and increases their employment competitiveness. Graduates have a wide range of employment, choose amateur land, high level of employment, and good regional distribution. A large number of outstanding talents are located at home and abroad, many of whom have become well-known scholars, diplomats and leaders of enterprises and institutions at home and abroad.
International Exchange and Cooperation: The college actively promotes international exchanges and cooperation. In 2009, the College established a Confucius Institute at the Presbyterian College in South Carolina, USA. Each year, college teachers and students teach at the Confucius Institute; with Presby College, West Chester University, Japan Yamaguchi University, Hiroshima University, Musashino University, South Korea’s Jianyang University, the Netherlands, The Hague University and other universities have established a stable exchange of study abroad mechanism, especially the establishment of a pre-Japanese master’s selection system with Yamaguchi University, and further use of overseas excellent educational resources. Further education offers a good opportunity. At present, the college has more than 10 international exchange cooperative institutions, which are distributed in the United States, Britain, South Korea, France, Lithuania, Malaysia, Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong and other countries and regions. Driven by the “Thousands of Overseas Study Abroad Programs” program in Guizhou Province, in the past three years, there have been more than 80 undergraduate and postgraduate students studying and internships abroad, and three more students have been funded by the China Scholarship Council to study in Japan. PhD. While continuously enriching and expanding exchanges, the College also works closely with the Japanese Consulate General in Chongqing, the Japan International Exchange Foundation, and the School of International Education. It regularly conducts Chinese and foreign food festivals, Sino-Japanese cultural exchange week, and exchanges between Chinese and Japanese college students. Activities to enhance students’ perception of the national culture of the target language.
