About Zhejiang Gongshang University
Zhejiang Gongshang University (浙江工商大学, website) is located in Hangzhou, the capital city of Zhejiang Province, China. Seven hundred years ago, Hangzhou, as the biggest city in the world, was applauded by Marco Polo, the well-known Italian traveler, as “the most splendid and luxurious city in the world”, while in the 21st century, Hangzhou has won the UN-Habitat Scroll of Honor Award, and is honored as one of the two best tourist attractions in China.
Zhejiang Gongshang University, as the earliest business school in Modern China, has become a comprehensive university covering nine academic areas of social and natural sciences, including Management, Economics, Engineering, Literature, Arts, Law, Science, History and Philosophy, and has a good reputation in teaching and research, especially in business, administration, law, food sciences and other social sciences. As Zhejiang Gongshang University is entering its second century, our goal is to become an internationalized university with internationalized administration, internationalized faculty and internationalized students. We are working together for a determined mission: “To straighten up ideas, to speed up development, to prosper through innovation, to distinguish by features.” As one of the top universities in Zhejiang, Zhejiang Gongshang University is marching forward diligently to be a leading university in China, especially in social sciences.
Zhejiang Gongshang University attaches great importance to international cooperation in the areas of teaching and research. It has had student exchange, joint research and a variety of cooperative programs with over eighty universities of more than twenty countries, such as the USA, the UK, Germany, France, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Korea. Over one thousand international students are studying Chinese Language, Chinese Culture, degree programs and other academic subjects on our campuses.

Foreign Language College
The Foreign Language College is one of the largest colleges in Zhejiang Gongshang University. There are 1 doctoral program in foreign language and literature; 4 master programs in foreign linguistics and applied linguistics, English language and literature and translation and translation professional translation; 3 undergraduate programs in English, business English and French. English language and literature is a Zhejiang provincial key discipline. English majors always take “Basic English” as the foundation, “Business English” as the feature, and English practical skills as the focus, cultivate a solid English language foundation, and can engage in international trade business in industrial and commercial enterprises, foreign-funded enterprises and foreign trade departments And translation work, or as a senior English professional in English teaching and scientific research for international trade and trade.
The college also has the Institute of Translation and Culture, the Institute of Applied Linguistics, the Institute of British and American Literature, the Institute of Narrative Studies, the Institute of English Education and Information Technology, the Institute of English-Chinese Contrast and Diversity, the Research Center for Business English Teaching Materials and Teaching Methods, There are 10 scientific research institutions including modern audio-visual teaching laboratory, simultaneous interpretation teaching laboratory and business English laboratory.
In 2018, the college enrolled 204 undergraduates, 73 masters, and 237 undergraduates and 58 masters. As of the end of 2018, the college had a total of 964 students of all types, including 789 undergraduates and 175 masters.

Want to tour around a nearby city on weekends? Train rides are probably what you’d be looking for. Cities of Shanghai, Nanjing and Suzhou are all just within hours’ distance by train or car.
Arts & culture
Hangzhou’s cultural richness constantly surprises you. Three of China’s most important museums, China National Silk Museum, China National Tea Museum, Zhejiang Provincial Museum are all located in Hangzhou. If you are interested in opera, then you’ve come to the right place for there are lots of theaters in Hangzhou giving performance of opera shows!
Food
Hangzhou is a culinary paradise with a large number of delicious dishes. Hangzhou’s local cuisine enjoys a nation-wide reputation and dishes prepared in its style are reputed to be “fresh, tender, soft and smooth, with a mellow fragrance”. Some of the better-known examples of Hangzhou’s regional cuisine are: West Lake Fish in Sweet and Sour Sauce, Dongpo Pork, Beggar’s Chicken, Fried Shrimps with Longjing Tea, and Hangzhou Soy-sauce Duck. Sounds interesting? Behind these dishes, there always seems to be a beautiful story linked with a historical figure in Hangzhou. In addition to the traditional Hangzhou food or Chinese cuisine, plenty of restaurants offer south-eastern or western-style food. In Hangzhou, you never have to worry about going hungry.
